MOYA Studio named National Creative StartUp of the Year 2026
Updated: Sep 24
MOYA Studio has been named Creative StartUp of the Year 2026 at the UK StartUp Awards National Final, recognising our work in building a better way for startup founders to develop and manufacture innovative bags and accessories.
Earlier this year, we were incredibly proud to win Creative StartUp of the Year for the South West. That took us through to the national judging alongside startups from across the UK.
Now, we’re very excited to share that MOYA Studio has been named the national winner of Creative StartUp of the Year 2026.
It is a significant milestone for our small team, but more importantly, it is recognition of the problem we originally set out to solve.
Why MOYA Studio was created
MOYA Studio grew from founder Moyang Yang’s own experience of launching a handbag brand and navigating the traditional fashion product development and manufacturing industry.
For startup founders, developing a physical product can be surprisingly fragmented. A founder may need to coordinate designers, technical specialists, sample makers, material suppliers and manufacturers, often without the industry knowledge to know what questions to ask or how one decision will affect another.
For founders trying to create something genuinely innovative, this becomes even more challenging.
MOYA Studio was created to bridge that gap.
Today, we support founders throughout the journey from product strategy and bag design to technical development, prototyping, material and hardware sourcing, manufacturer sourcing and production preparation.
The aim isn't simply to create a beautiful design. It is to develop a product that works: creatively, technically, commercially and in manufacturing.
Going deeper into R&D
Since winning the South West regional award, our understanding of this problem has developed considerably.
Over the past several months, Moyang has spent significant time working directly within the manufacturing ecosystem in China and Europe, including meeting manufacturers in Guangzhou and sourcing specialist materials, components and manufacturing partners across Milan.
What became increasingly clear is that the difficulty isn't only experienced by founders.
Traditional manufacturers are typically structured around production. Startup founders, however, increasingly approach factories with innovative ideas that still require substantial research and development (R&D) before they are ready to manufacture.
This creates a gap on both sides.
Founders need technical guidance to translate an idea into a manufacturable product. Manufacturers need clearer, technically resolved information before they can produce it efficiently.
We believe specialist R&D can become the bridge between the two.
Building a new model for bag and accessory development
This year, MOYA Studio began working closely with a manufacturing partner in Guangzhou to develop a more structured R&D process specifically for innovative startup projects.
Instead of repeatedly producing complete samples and reacting to problems afterwards, we identify technical and manufacturing risks earlier, test critical elements strategically, and use each development round to answer specific questions.
The early results have been extremely encouraging.
Our first three projects using this collaborative model reached their intended development outcomes within only two or three sampling rounds, giving us greater confidence that a more strategic R&D process can reduce unnecessary iteration while helping founders achieve a better-resolved product.
This approach is now becoming an increasingly important part of MOYA Studio's future.
Our longer-term vision is to establish a dedicated bag and accessory R&D centre, connecting our design and strategic expertise with specialist manufacturing capabilities and supplier networks across the UK, Europe and China.
A milestone for our next chapter
The business itself has also continued to grow.
Our core team has expanded to four people across design, manufacturing and administration, and we recently secured our largest development partnership to date, supporting an innovative luxury pet travel product through an extensive design, R&D and development programme.
It is exactly the type of technically ambitious project that demonstrates why a deeper R&D-led approach is needed.
Despite all this development, our original mission hasn't changed.
We want to help bring better, more meaningful products into the world.
For us, that means giving founders the expertise, development process and manufacturing support to pursue genuinely original ideas, while making sure those ideas can become beautifully made, commercially viable products in the real world.
Being named Creative StartUp of the Year 2026 nationally is an incredible recognition of how far MOYA Studio has come.
But we're even more excited about where we're going next.
